Job Summary
Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) is seeking a Mental Health Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team at the Center for Health and Counseling. This position affords the opportunity to engage in the variety of tasks required by a therapist working in a college counseling setting. This includes performing intake assessments, conducting psychotherapy with both students and employees, providing walk-in crisis intervention services, coordinating services with in-house medical providers, developing and presenting outreach presentations, consulting with and training faculty and staff, and referring clients to an array of both on-campus and off-campus resources.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Assess clients through clinical intake interview and establish appropriate case formulation and treatment plan.
- Provide time-limited psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and groups which may include supportive counseling and evidence-based treatment.
- Provide on-demand crisis intervention services to both new and established walk-in clients.
- Create mental health assessment documentation to facilitate student access to disability accommodations, financial aid and registration options.
- Maintain a confidential, safe, client-centered, quality experience for clientele.
- Collaborate with college departments and community service agencies to arrange case management and referrals as appropriate.
- Maintain timely, accurate documentation of client contacts and outreach activities.
- Develop, present and participate in psychoeducational outreach activities.
- Provide consultation to faculty and staff dealing with students of concern.
- Serve on departmental or campus committees as needed.
- Attend and participate in departmental staff meetings.
- Maintain reliable work attendance and punctuality to ensure a smooth, efficient department operation.
- Participate in continuing education programs to maintain professional licensure
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE Skills and Abilities:
- Clinical competence to assist students from multiple backgrounds and perspectives in order to improve mental health, developmental, academic, occupational, social, and relational outcomes.
- Assessment of clients through clinical interview and use of psychometric instruments to establish DSM-5 diagnosis.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Computer literacy, including experience and aptitude with electronic health records.
- Well-developed ability and commitment to working as part of an interdisciplinary team of mental health and medical professionals, support staff, and health promotion specialists.
- Familiarity with campus and local mental health resources to assist students in accessing resources such as health insurance, food, housing and other basic needs.
- Ability to work independently and to seek supervision and consultation as appropriate.
- Emotional intelligence and awareness in dealing with stress, frustration, interpersonal conflict, feedback and need for personal growth.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a broad range of people in regard to ability, socioeconomic status, culture, religion, sex and gender, and racial and ethnic backgrounds.
Minimum qualifications
- Master of Social Work or Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree from an accredited institution.
- Current Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the State of Utah.
- Two years, paid, full-time experience providing psycho-social services.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual speaker in English and Spanish.
- Experience working with college age population.
- Experience in Higher Education setting.
