Microsoft Visiting Research Scholar/Visiting Professor

The Microsoft Visiting Research Scholar/Visiting Professor track of the Center for Information Technology Policy (CITP) fellows program is for visiting academics who are nationally or internationally recognized experts in technology policy. Appointments are typically for a term of up to nine months with an expected start date on or about September 1, 2026.

The Microsoft Visiting Research Scholar/Visiting Professor is expected to collaborate and contribute to CITP's mission in at least one of the following ways:

  1. Teach one course related to their research during their nine-month term, subject to sufficient enrollment and with the approval of the Dean of the Faculty.
  2. Envision and lead a conference or a series of workshops during their time at CITP.
  3. Collaborate with existing faculty members on research and jointly mentor students or CITP's emerging scholars.

Candidates will be required to provide detailed proposals in their cover letter pertaining to one or more of these three areas.

The selected candidate's primary appointment will be at the rank of "Visiting Research Scholar" or "Visiting Professional Specialist" depending on experience. Typically, there will be one Microsoft Visiting Professor per year. If the appointed scholar teaches a course, they will carry the title of Microsoft Visiting (Assistant/Associate) Professor in the semester of teaching.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. or J.D.
  • Nationally or internationally recognized expert in technology policy.
  • Applicants must be on leave from another institution. If you are selected, we will require documentation from your home institution stating that you are on leave during your entire appointment period while here at CITP.

Applicants must apply online at https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/40402. Candidates are encouraged to apply by the start-of-review date, Monday, December 1, 2025, for full consideration. We will accept applications after that date but will only consider them if the position has not yet been filled.

Please submit a current curriculum vitae, a research statement, and a cover letter describing your background, interest in the program, and salary requirements, noting any support you will be receiving during that period, such as sabbatical funding. Please include a proposal in your cover letter elaborating on how you plan to contribute to CITP during your term.
