Description
We are an international leading research group (led by Prof Xiaodong Liu) in IoT, pervasive systems, Cyber-Physical Systems, generative AI and intelligence-driven software engineering. Edinburgh Napier University is one of the largest higher education institutions in the UK with over 20,000 students from 109 countries. REF2014). SCEBE has significant collaborations on pervasive computing (IoT), AI, and data science. It helps to explore not just the technology but how people interact with it and how it impacts on society. SCEBE has led and participated in many projects with EU (including MSCA PF and MSCA DN), UK research councils, international funders and clients across all industry sectors. SCEBE has registered dozens of patents and spun out 10+ companies. It has a distinguished record in training researchers: a vibrant PhD programme, a number of CPD and Postdoc training programmes.
Prof Liu is is an active researcher iwith internationally leading reputation and expertise, focusing on its emerging themes including Cyber-Physical Systems, AI-driven smart systems, Internet of Things, services-oriented architecture, evolution of cloud services, and intelligence-driven software engineering. He has led 15 externally funded projects as the PI with a total funding value of over £4.5 millions including MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships and MSCA Doctoral Networks, and published over 200 papers in established international journals and conferences, 5 book chapters and 3 research handbooks. He is the inventor of 1 patent registered in UK and USA and the founder of a spin-out company. He has been the chair, co-chair of a number of IEEE and ACM International Conferences. He is the editorial board member of 4 international journals, editor-in-chief for 1 and associate editor for 2 international journals, and editor of 3 research books and 9 journals special issues. He is a senior member of IEEE Society and a member of British Computer Society.
