Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:
The NC New Teacher Support Program (NC NTSP) seeks to be a leader in university-based induction support through the belief in and practice of transformative, intentional coaching to increase student achievement by improving beginning teacher effectiveness and retention. Under the direction of the UNC General Administration and in collaboration with institutions of higher education and Local Education Agencies, the mission of the NC NTSP is to support beginning teachers through consistent, individualized, in-the-moment coaching aligned to individualized growth and personalized professional development.

The Watson College of Education (WCE) (www.uncw.edu/ed) is a growing college with over 60 tenure-track faculty members working in undergraduate and master's programs in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy and Special Education and the Department of Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education, and master's and doctoral programs in the Department of Educational Leadership. It offers several international study programs and maintains partnerships with numerous school districts, community colleges, and colleges/universities in the region. Brief Summary of Work for this Position:
The NC NTSP Instructional Coach affiliated with the Watson College of Education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington will manage a cohort of teachers assigned in one or more schools and/or school districts in the southeast region and will be assigned to these locations as needed.

The primary role of the NC New Teacher Support Program Instructional Coach position is to support beginning teachers through the delivery of the program's three core services 1) professional learning institute, 2) individualized instructional coaching, and 3) aligned professional development. Instructional Coaches will also play an integral role in developing the broader support program, working closely with NC NTSP staff, school and district leadership, UNC system Schools of Education, and others to ensure that the web of support is effective for new teachers.



Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Current NC teaching license
  • Master's degree in education or a related field
  • 5+ years teaching experience with measurable student outcomes
  • Experience leading adult professional learning
  • Knowledge of NCSCOS, NC Professional Teaching Standards, NC DPI Induction Program, Mentor Standards and teacher leadership standards
