Neurology Scientist, Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Neurology, Neurodegeneration (Tenure-Track)

The Department of Neurology at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University is seeking faculty with clinical and translational research interests to join a multidisciplinary team interested in developing and applying research applications or neuroimaging technologies to the study of neurodegenerative disorders. The position is tenure-eligible and successful candidates will be appointed at either assistant or associate or full professor level and will receive space and startup funds commensurate with experience and achievement.

Competitive candidates will lead a robust clinical or translational research program and will serve as mentors to research and clinical trainees from affiliate institutional departments. As such, appointees must have experience conducting clinical, translational or neuroimaging research, have a track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and demonstrate success securing extramural funding including current funding. Exceptional opportunities exist to collaborate with faculty from the Departments of Neurobiology & Behavior, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, among other departments across the health science and undergraduate campuses. Stony Brook is host to an array of core services, including small animal MRI, uCT, and PET imaging facilities on the ground floor of the Renaissance School of Medicine campus. Moreover, Neurobiology & Behavior has established the Thomas Hartman Center for PD Research, awarding pilot research funding to over 20 faculty researchers in different basic and clinical departments across SBU. Stony Brook is also on the cutting edge of developing novel PET imaging approaches to uncover the fundamental underpinnings of neuropsychiatric conditions.

Applicants will contribute to the educational mission by teaching and mentoring research trainees.

Comprised of the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, and Neurobiology and Behavior, The Stony Brook Neurosciences Institute hosts several cross-disciplinary clinical programs. Coupled with outstanding preclinical and translational research programs, the Department of Neurology is host to adult and child neurology residency programs and fellowships in cerebrovascular, epilepsy, neurophysiology, and neuroimmunology. SBU is a Comprehensive Stroke Center providing 24/7 coverage for neuro-endovascular procedures, neurocritical care ICU support, and neurovascular neurosurgery. The Movement Disorders team collaborates closely with the Departments of Neurosurgery and Psychiatry to support deep brain stimulation, tic disorders, and other multidisciplinary programs.

Required Qualifications: Qualified candidates will hold a Ph.D degree (or foreign equivalent). Research experience and accomplishments in either clinical or translational research. Possess a record of publication in peer-reviewed journals. Demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills and the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Evidence of success competing for extramural, federal funding. Evidence of success in obtaining extramural funding, managing a translational research laboratory, or leading clinical trials.

To qualify for tenure and/or a senior faculty appointment, the candidate must meet the criteria established by the School of Medicine (School of Medicine's Criteria for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure).
