Offer Description
The NeuroSubTra junior professorship (CPJ) aligns with one of the six cross-cutting challenges of the CNRS-State Performance and Objectives Contract (COMP) 2024-2028, which is dedicated to brain research. It will strengthen research at the intersection of neuroscience, cellular biology, and translational approaches to explore the mechanisms underlying neuro-developmental pathologies and open new diagnostic or therapeutic avenues. The CPJ project will contribute to a multi-scale understanding of the brain by providing emerging expertise in intraneuronal transport processes, a research field considered as strategic for deciphering the transitions between normal neuronal function, plasticity and vulnerability to neuropathologies. Additionally, the CPJ project aligns with one of the priority areas of excellence identified by UPCité (Neuroscience), which is investing in the development of interdisciplinary hubs that integrate biology, health, AI, and cutting-edge imaging methods. The recruited candidate will also strengthen international collaborations and enhance positioning in European calls—particularly those related to brain development and rare genetic brain disorders. The ability of the recruited candidate to integrate consortia, interdisciplinary projects, and to contribute to training programs will be a major asset for attracting partnerships and funding. Furthermore, the CNRS is committed to supporting high-potential early-career researchers who can establish innovative research topics, secure competitive fundings, and sustainably develop a research axis. This project aligns with this ambition and will contribute to advancing scientific excellence in the fields of cellular neuroscience and neurodevelopmental disorders.
The recruited candidate will join the Paris Saints-Pères Neuroscience Institute (SPPIN) (SPPIN, CNRS UMR8003/UPCité). SPPIN develops a multidisciplinary strategy combining two-photon imaging, super-resolution microscopy, electrophysiology and optogenetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, and behavioral analyses in both healthy animals and models of brain pathologies. The NeuroSubTra CPJ aims to strengthen the laboratory's “molecular and cellular neurobiology” axis, whose international visibility has been recognized by evaluation committees. The CPJ project will reinforce SPPIN's established technological and scientific expertise in neurophysiology and cellular and subcellular imaging. The recruited candidate will specifically reinforce the topics dedicated to neuronal intracellular transport in order to modulate these pathways and identify novel therapeutic avenues in the context of devastating neurological diseases.
The project aims to uncover how molecular dynamics, studied at the subcellular level, controls intercellular communication between organelles during neuronal development and neuroplasticity processes. It also seeks to decode the molecular mechanisms involved in the dysfunction of this communication in neurodevelopmental pathologies, with the goal of developing original modulatory strategies. This project will use murine models of neurodevelopmental disorders and will rely on biological samples ranging from dissociated cell cultures to whole-brain. It will employ cutting-edge imaging techniques, molecular biology methods (gene expression manipulation, use of viral vectors), OMICS approaches, and behavioral studies.
The successful candidate will teach neuroscience courses within existing programs (e.g., Master's in Neurosciences) at the Faculty of Fundamental and Biomedical Sciences. His.her recruitment will strengthen them by bridging molecular, cellular, and behavioral approaches, aligning with the current structure of the program at Université Paris Cité. He.she will also contribute to teaching on the cellular mechanisms of neuropathologies, neurodevelopment, and the interactions between genes, circuits, and pathologies, by clarifying the links between molecular mechanisms, functional alterations, and the clinical expression of neurological disorders. Experience in organizing scientific events and mentoring young researchers will be an asset for the "Scientific Communication" module, which includes presentations, poster sessions, scientific writing, and an introduction to project design.
The CNRS is developing a strong policy in favor of open science. Open science consists of making research results "as accessible as possible and closed as necessary". As such, the CNRS aims to make 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its laboratories accessible , in particular through deposit in HAL. The data produced must also be made available and reusable, except for specific restrictions. In addition, the guiding principles of individual evaluation have been revised in accordance with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take into account all facets of the researcher's profession.
The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.
The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project's socio-economic and cultural eco-system.
