This role is part of the wider External Engagement (EE) Team who are responsible for harnessing communications and creative capability to help UNSW reach key audiences in a way that positions UNSW as a global leader in higher education and meet key strategic goals.
Why Your Role Matters
Working as part of the External Engagement Team, this News & Content Coordinator position delivers the news and content strategies for the Faculty of Law & Justice, collaborating closely with central corporate communications, social media and newsroom teams to create all forms of content across long-form writing, video, multimedia and social media, designed to increase engagement with UNSW’s audiences
In this role you’ll be exercising your creative muscles to partner with colleagues and Faculty stakeholders to bring new ideas to life. You’ll thrive on sourcing and crafting compelling content to meet newsroom deadlines, securing opportunities to showcase the faculty’s thought-leadership, and support the University’s broader communication strategy to position UNSW as a global leader in higher education.
Reporting to the External Engagement Manager, Law & Justice you’ll join a passionate team of professionals who collaborate to reach key audiences to increase engagement, strengthen engagement and elevate UNSW’s reputation as a teaching and research leader.
Responsibilities include:
- Creating, planning and producing high‑quality content across web, digital, media, social, video, email and long‑form formats to support Faculty priorities.
- Translating research, expertise and media activity into engaging, accessible digital content that reflects UNSW’s commitment to knowledge for all.
- Writing with clarity and impact for diverse audiences, aligning with UNSW’s brand.
- Pitching, writing and placing stories to secure strong media coverage for Faculty research, and responding to media enquiries promptly.
- Building strong relationships with stakeholders and providing a collaborative, service‑focused approach.
- Monitoring content performance, adapting content strategies to maximise reach and engagement.
- Contributing to content ideation, production and editing with a strong understanding of audience needs and UNSW’s strategic narrative.
Who You Are
This role will suit a content creation superstar – someone who is innovative in their approach and across both traditional and digital mediums and has a sense of curiosity for all things, AI, climate change, social justice, LegalTech, human rights, criminal justice and legal education alongside:
- A relevant tertiary degree, a background in journalism/media/ PR and/or social content production coupled with a passion for digital marketing and storytelling.
- Exceptional writing skills, communicating concisely and impactfully across long- form formats.
- Strong editing skills, and substantial work experience developing and implementing new approaches to social and other digital media.
- Knowledge of best practice digital content including analytics and SEO.
- Proven expertise in content production, curation across digital mediums and issues management.
- Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative and consultative manner to newsroom deadlines.
- Outstanding attention to detail, with excellent oral, visual and written communication skills.
- A skilled and confident communicator, with a can-do attitude and exceptional interpersonal abilities
