Job Duties
This nursing faculty position has a wide range of professional responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate the philosophy and objectives of the nursing education program.
- Design, implement, teach, evaluate, and revise the curriculum. Faculty should provide evidence of education and experience necessary to indicate that the faculty member is competent to teach a given course.
- Develop and evaluate student admission, progression, retention, and graduation policies within the framework of the controlling institution.
- Participate in academic advisement and counseling of students in accordance with requirements of the Financial Educational Rights and Privacy Act (20 USC § 1232g).
- Provide opportunities for and evidence of student and graduate evaluation of curriculum and teaching and program effectiveness.
- Document actions taken in faculty and committee meetings using a systematic plan of evaluation for total program review.
- Create and maintain effective collegial relationships with students, faculty, University and clinical agency staff and administration.
- Model professional evidence-based nursing is sensitive to diverse and multicultural considerations.
- Establish and maintain professional and ethical boundaries with students, co-workers, and others in all learning environments.
- Participate in University service and events; and
- Perform other responsibilities that may be assigned by the Department Chair.
Minimum Qualifications
- An earned Master of Science in Nursing from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Evidence of current experience in nursing practice (minimum of five years).
- Ability to teach, conduct research/creative activities, and provide service.
- A current, unencumbered license as a registered nurse or multistate licensure privilege to practice nursing in Virginia, or ability to obtain prior to start date.
Additional Considerations
- A terminal degree in the discipline (PhD, DNP, EdD) with nursing focus.
- Substantive specialization or certification in a nursing specialty field.
- Experience teaching in clinical environments and virtual simulation learning platform.
- Knowledge of higher education and nursing accreditation processes.
