Position description

The Sue & Bill School of Nursing at the University of California, Irvine is currently accepting applications for the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Residency Program for the 2026-2027 academic year.

This is a full-time program designed to develop expert family nurse practitioners equipped to serve diverse, underserved populations in community-based healthcare settings. In partnership with a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), the residency includes:

Year 1 (Residency Training):
- Direct, hands-on experience in primary care within a community health setting, guided by a dedicated preceptor offering real-time feedback
- Rotations through multiple specialty clinic sites, gaining exposure to complex and commonly encountered conditions in vulnerable populations
- Weekly Didactic Sessions and Quality Improvement (QI) training to enhance clinical reasoning and systems-based practice
- Mentored clinical experiences with an emphasis on navigating complex healthcare delivery
- Opportunity to build expertise in designing and delivering educational content
Residents are appointed as Health Sciences Clinical Instructors in the school of nursing and the residency is overseen by the Nurse-OC Program Manager.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates must have a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree
Applicants must be board-certified and licensed to practice as an FNP in California by August 1st, 2026
Applicants must have completed an accredited DNP-FNP program within the past 24 months, no later than July 1, 2026.
