Your Role on the Team

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Care Operations, the Nurse Manager has 24/7 leadership responsibility over the Transfer Center and provides leadership and strategic oversight for all transfer center operations across the UCI Health system. The nurse manager is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and patient-centered transfer processes while promoting operational excellence and adherence to UCI Health policies, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based nursing standards. The nurse manager leads a team of transfer center coordinators, providing operational oversight, and fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. The Transfer Center Nurse Manager will work in close partnership with Capacity Management to optimize patient flow across the health system. The Nurse Manager will also collaborate with physicians, nursing units, and external referral facilities to ensure safe, timely communication, clinical decision-making, and coordination of patient transfers throughout the system. The nurse manager plays a key role in strategic planning and oversees performance metrics, quality initiatives, and process improvement projects, using data-driven strategies to enhance patient access, system efficiency, and overall care quality. The role requires forward-thinking leadership, the ability to respond to complex operational challenges, and a sustained focus on advancing patient-centered care.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of hospital operations, patient flow, and clinical processes.
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze data, review trends and activities, and make recommendations for improvement
  • Prior management experience in an acute care setting
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards, such as EMTALA and HIPAA.
  • Knowledge of Title 22 and Joint Commission Requirements
  • Familiarity with transfer center software and technology systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collect, analyze, and interpret data, including report creation and data validation
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
  • Ability to be successful in a self-directed, self-motivated, fast-paced environment with changing deadlines and priorities.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a healthcare leadership role, preferably overseeing a transfer center or patient flow process

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience managing a Transfer Center or Capacity Command Center

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Registered Nurse
  • Basic Life Support

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science, Nursing
