Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $18.32 - Midpoint: $21.97 (Hourly N4)

Department/Organization: 223101 - Dean's Office-Nursing

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm

Job Summary:

The Nursing Simulation Lab Assistant assists with the day-to-day operation of the Clinical Practice Laboratory (CPL) and the simulation center. Sets up clinical labs. Recommends and orders supplies. Catalogues and tracks equipment. Collaborates with Human Patient Simulation (HPS) Support Specialist to schedule and implement simulation sessions.

Additional Department Summary:

Assists the Director in the provision of simulation-based learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and community partners. Collaborates with the Director to support the daily operation of all mannequins, audiovisual systems, computers, and high-, medium-, and low-fidelity simulation equipment. Maintains laboratory equipment in good working order. Ensures that daily setup and breakdown are done appropriately and efficiently. Interacts with technical support of equipment for troubleshooting and repair of all equipment. Maintains supply rooms and communicates equipment and supply needs to Director. Completes daily documentation related to simulation activities. Facilitates tours for recruiting faculty, prospective students, donors, high school students, and other visitors. Enforces policies and procedures for lab operations and simulation activities. Assists with the coordination of orientation, training, and ongoing support of simulation faculty. Collaborates with clinical faculty during skills labs and make appropriate adjustments based on needs of the faculty. Researches and recommends simulation assets, technology, and supplies. Leads faculty, staff, and student employees in the implementation and execution of clinical lab processes and procedures. Assists with the implementation of new technology, procedures, and processes.

The Capstone College of Nursing (CCN), through its scholarship mission, works to promote the health and well-being of the people of the state of Alabama, the nation, and the world. The CCN Simulation Center provides students with the opportunity to develop clinical judgement through high- and low-fidelity patient simulators, task trainers, and other teaching and healthcare technology.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience; OR associate's degree or higher.

Skills and Knowledge:

Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to work with commonly used medical equipment. Ability to work with deadlines and flexibly alter workflows when necessary. Ability to critically think, problem solve, and make decisions/judgement. Attention to details and ability to plan, organize, and complete work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritizes work. Proficient computer literacy skills and willingness to work with and learn advanced technology skills related to equipment used in simulation. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collegially with faculty, students, staff, and administrators, and community partners. Ability to express technical information clearly to non-technical persons, including developing and using standard operating checklists. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Strong people and communication skills to promote / foster collegiality. Strong projects management skills. Exacting standards of quality and attention to detail. Self-motivated and flexible. Ability to manage and lead others in the successful completion of projects. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Working knowledge of MS Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), internet browsers, and other basic desktop software applications. Ability to lift 50lbs with assistance. Ability to work and use a computer for extended periods, continuously throughout the day.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor degree; OR high school diploma or GED and three (3) years of hospital, patient care, or healthcare education experience. Extensive experience with the use of devices and technology utilized in a hospital, patient care, or healthcare education setting.
