The Department of Pediatrics, Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia is actively seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor to serve as a Pediatric Palliative Care physician. This position does not need the requirements to be on a tenure track.
Responsibilities
Patient Care - 90%
The position will provide palliative care consultations for patients from birth to young adulthood and will include prenatal consultations for pregnant mothers who are anticipating delivery of an infant with congenital malformations or other conditions with anticipated need for NICU care. Clinical care would include but is not limited to supportive care for patients who are typically medically-complex or have life-limiting conditions. The focus of our program is on providing patient- and family-centered care with support provided across care sites (inpatient, outpatient, and home via Telephone/Telehealth) and across time (from prenatally till patient is 21yo). Provider would provide assistance with development of symptom management plans (for both inpatient and home use), psychosocial support for families, and assistance with care coordination to help families in navigating our healthcare system. Position will interface with multiple inpatient teams as well as outpatient providers to coordinate both care for the patient as well as support for their families/caregivers. Provider will help direct utilization of the multi-disciplinary providers that make up our Pediatric Palliative Care team. The position will maintain and ensure that relevant patient records are properly updated and share weekday coverage.
Education/Teaching - 10%
Successful candidates will have a proven history of excellent clinical skills, practice evidence-based medicine and have a desire to provide education regarding palliative care to multiple levels of trainees. Educational responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing mentorship, clinical supervision, and consultation to residents/medical students/staff at AU and developing a more in-depth educational experience for trainees in palliative care, and providing training to residents/students/staff at AU/Wellstar at MCG in palliative care through didactics as well as bedside teaching.
Required Qualifications
Medical degree from an accredited medical school/university or equivalent, Board Certified or Board Eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine or have equivalent clinical experience. Must have or be eligible for a State of Georgia Medical License, Federal DEA, and be certified in CPR. South Carolina licensure is helpful as we do serve patients who reside in SC.
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
