The Department of Oral Biology in the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor to teach dental students, dental residents and graduate students. This will include development and delivery of head and neck anatomy and/or neuroanatomy lectures, and assisting in the gross anatomy laboratory. The faculty member will direct one or more courses. Excellent interpersonal skills required. This position is considered to be on tenure track. Responsibilities

Teaching - 50%

Teaching dental students, dental residents and graduate students. This will include development and delivery of head and neck anatomy and/or neuroanatomy lectures, and assisting in the gross anatomy laboratory. Direct one or more courses. Should be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Research/Scholarship - 45%

Conduct independent research as well as research in collaboration with other faculty within the Dental College of Georgia and external to the College, as appropriate. Develop extramurally-funded research program.

Service - 5%

Engage in service activities as are needed by the department, college, institution and scientific community.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in anatomy, neurobiology or related field, and/or a medical or dental qualification (MD, DDS, or foreign equivalent).
Display a productive record of established scholarship of national significance, preferably in relation to diseases of the head and neck. Record of didactic instruction.
Candidates will demonstrate a record of, or potential for: 1) teaching in anatomy or a related field; 2) obtaining extramural funding; 3) a strong publication record; 4) postdoctoral training.

Assistant Professor - Early level career as a faculty member with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.

Associate Professor - Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.

Professor - Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience in gross anatomy of head, neck and brain. Teaching in systematic anatomy. Experience of writing and submitting research funding applications.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
