The Department of Pediatric Dentistry in the Dental College of Georgia (DCG), at Augusta University, is seeking a faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor to serve as the director of the preclinical and clinical courses in Pediatric Dentistry. Additional responsibilities include clinical and didactic support of the Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry Program. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.
Responsibilities
- Teaching 60%
Participate in the departmental teaching responsibilities. These efforts will be primarily in the areas of Pediatric Dentistry but may also include any of the other departmental teaching areas. This will include lectures, seminars, laboratories, clinical supervision and related activities at the predoctoral and postdoctoral level. Participate in The Dental College of Georgia committee activities and assume responsibilities as appropriate. Measures of success would include acceptable peer and student reviews, significant course contribution and innovations, positive course director evaluations, and acceptable annual review by Chair of teaching effectiveness. - Clinical/Patient 25%
Perform patient care through the DCG Dental Practice Group in order to maintain practice skills and provide treatment for patients. Goal is to attain a level of productivity as described in the Compensation and Benefits section above.
Demonstrate dignity and respect for patient and family knowledge, values, beliefs, and cultural background in the planning and delivery of care. Participate in the care of ambulatory pediatric and special needs patients through the Dental Practice Group as well as in the OR at Children's Hospital of Georgia and the Ambulatory Surgical Center within the DCG. - Scholarship/Research 10%
Engage in research and scholarly activities at a level to provide adequate development in academic achievement. Goal is to meet research and scholarly benchmarks for promotion to the next academic rank as defined in the Dental College of Georgia P&T policy. - Service 5%
Engage in university or external professional or service activities as appropriate. Goal is to make contribution in these areas of activity.
Required Qualifications
DMD/DDS from a CODA accredited United States or Canadian dental school. Completion of a CODA accredited Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry program. Diplomate status in the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Teaching or unrestricted license to practice dentistry from the Georgia Board of Dentistry.
Assistant Professor - Early level career as a faculty member with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Associate Professor - Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Professor - Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have significant clinical experience, prior experience in dental education and PALS certification.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Rank and salary are determined at the time of hire and are based on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, etc. while also considering internal equity and market data.
