Job Details
Minimum Qualifications
PhD, MD, DO, DVM, PharmD or equivalent degree.
Position Summary
The University of Georgia School of Medicine is seeking two experienced, innovative faculty members at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor who will serve as medical educators to teach primarily in our pre-clerkship curriculum (Years 1 and 2). This may include, but is not limited to, serving as a facilitator in small group learning and as a large group instructor. We are seeking to address current curricular needs in neuroscience, cell biology/histology, physiology and pathology, so individuals with training and teaching experience in one or more of these areas are especially encouraged to apply. Medical Educators are expected to participate in developing assessment questions for weekly quizzes and module examinations, participate in exam adjudication sessions when appropriate, and participate in faculty development sessions. Medical Educators also participate in collaborative educational research or other scholarly endeavors, and will serve on department, school and/or university committees as needed. UGA School of Medicine basic science and clinical science faculty work closely together within our unique curriculum, including in pairs to facilitate case-based small group student learning on a weekly basis.
The successful candidate will have a primary appointment at the University of Georgia School of Medicine, in either the Department of Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences or the Department of Clinical Sciences, depending on whether he/she has basic sciences training or clinical training. The candidate will also have an adjunct faculty appointment in the appropriate department at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. Our campus will continue to educate medical students from the Medical College of Georgia through approximately 2030, as the UGA School of Medicine becomes fully established.
The position is a non-tenure track appointment, and rank will be awarded commensurate with experience. Additional Requirements
For candidates with an MD or DO degree, if additional campus duties require hospital privileges, the following would also be required: board certification by the American Board of Medical Specialties (when appropriate), the ability to obtain an unrestricted medical license in the state of Georgia and appropriate hospital credentials, and the ability to obtain an unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration license.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
Postdoctoral training is highly desirable. Evidence of teaching excellence is highly desirable, as is at least one year of experience with case-based and active learning methods in both small and large group settings. Preference will be given to candidates with at least one year of prior teaching experience in U.S. medical education programs, and to those who will be actively engaged in some form of research or scholarship.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Our students study basic and clinical sciences in a highly integrated, systems-based, hybrid curriculum that incorporates active learning strategies in small and large group settings. We seek outstanding, team-oriented educators with excellent communication skills who will share our excitement in contributing to this dynamic and innovative educational program. Preference will be given to candidates who also demonstrate a commitment to educational research or other scholarly endeavors.

The application packet should include a curriculum vitae, statement of teaching experience and philosophy, and a cover letter addressing how the applicant’s credentials and experience meet the responsibilities and qualifications of the position. Contact information for at least three (3) professional references should also be provided. Please note that references will only be contacted with applicant’s prior consent.
Closing date:
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with those received by January 1, 2026 given full consideration. The School of Medicine plans to fill this position by June 1, 2026, with the search remaining open until the position is filled.
