Mayo Clinic announces an open-rank tenure-track faculty recruitment dedicated to advancing understanding and developing treatment strategies for autoimmunity in Type 1 diabetes. The position emphasizes the development of novel immunomodulatory or disease-modifying therapeutic approaches, as well as innovative strategies for immune protection and evasion in stem cell-derived islet cells for the treatment of Type 1 diabetes. This role provides a unique opportunity to contribute at the intersection of islet autoimmunity, translational immunology, islet cell biology, transplantation research, and stem cell biology. Mayo Clinic, ranked first in Diabetes and Endocrinology patient care, seeks candidates who demonstrate excellence in collaborative environments and possess a strong record of partnership with clinical colleagues.

Preferred Research Focus and Expertise

  • Mechanisms driving the autoimmune process in Type 1 diabetes
  • Establishment of immune tolerance in Type 1 diabetes
  • Disease-modifying therapies in Type 1 diabetes
  • Modelling autoimmunity and human islet destruction in Type 1 diabetes
  • Immune modulation of stem cell-derived islet cells for transplantation
  • Immune-islet crosstalk during pathogenesis and progression of Type 1 diabetes

The position can be located at any of Mayo Clinic’s campuses in Rochester, Minnesota; Phoenix, Arizona; or Jacksonville, Florida.

The successful candidate will hold an MD, PhD, or MD/PhD (or equivalent) with a sustained track record of success in extramural funding (current R01 or R01-equivalent funding as PI) and publications, and who demonstrate excellence in collaborative environments and possess a stong record of partnership with clinical colleagues.
