Job Summary

Position Description

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at The University of Texas seeks to fill up to four full-time non-tenure track Professor of Instruction (open rank) positions in Inorganic or Physical Chemistry. We seek candidates with interests and experience in experimental design and with the use and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation, including chromatographic, electrochemical, and spectrophotometric techniques. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to oversee, design, and teach general and inorganic and/or physical chemistry lecture and laboratory courses in person using student-centered, active learning, and inquiry-based approaches. The position also includes responsibilities of a laboratory course coordinator, such as planning and designing experiments, training and mentoring teaching assistants, and designing and facilitating clear criteria for grading, evaluating, and giving feedback on laboratory reports. Service activities may include support for departmental curriculum/pedagogy development, student advising, and serving on department and university committees.

The appointments commence for the fall 2026 semester.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience: A master's degree or equivalent in Chemistry or a related discipline is required prior to employment, and one semester of teaching experience at the college level. Applicants for Associate and full Professor positions should have qualifications and experience commensurate with those ranks. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.

Preferred Education and Experience: A doctoral degree in chemistry or a related area, at least one year of experience teaching upper-level chemistry courses for chemistry majors, at least one year of experience teaching introductory chemistry courses, and experience in curriculum/pedagogy development.
