Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry

Kenyon College, a highly selective, nationally ranked liberal arts college in central Ohio, invites applications for a Visiting position in Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in July 2026.

We seek a chemist who is committed to the education of undergraduates in a liberal arts environment, particularly at the organic and introductory chemistry level. With a five-course load each year across the curriculum, there is also potential to offer an advanced course in their area of expertise. The successful candidate will have some research or teaching experience in experimental organic chemistry and hold a Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field. Candidates with connections to environmental and physical chemistry are particularly encouraged to apply.

The Department of Chemistry graduates 15-20 majors annually. Faculty work closely with students in the classroom and the laboratory. In addition to the chemistry major, the curriculum is also integrated with interdisciplinary majors including biochemistry, molecular biology, neuroscience, and environmental studies. With small classes and instrumentation for laboratory work, faculty are heavily invested in student mentorship and effective pedagogy in chemistry.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree or expect completion by the start of the fall semester. A complete application will be composed of 1) a cover letter; 2) a statement of the applicant's teaching philosophy (no more than 2 pages); 3) a Curriculum Vitae; 4) an unofficial graduate transcript; and 5) contact information for three professional references (letters will be requested after initial review). A competitive application will show — in the cover letter and other documents — why the applicant would thrive teaching at Kenyon, and how the applicant will promote an inclusive, culturally, and intellectually diverse educational environment. It will cite specific examples of past accomplishments and prospective ideas, beyond stating general principles or personal commitments. An informative teaching statement is a personal narrative about teaching and learning chemistry, which reveals how the applicant sees students as learners, explains what makes their teaching effective, and describes concrete examples of their teaching activities.

All application materials must be submitted electronically through Kenyon's employment website. Review of applications will begin on February 28th, 2026. Please direct questions regarding the position or the application process to Kerry Rouhier (she/her), Search Committee Chair (rouhierk@kenyon.edu).
