Position Description

Seattle University invites applications for a 9-month term faculty position in the teaching series (open rank) with the Department of Kinesiology beginning September 1, 2026.

Teaching Professor series faculty are academically qualified individuals with disciplinary expertise. They are primarily responsible for instruction and service to the University, with commensurate professional development and contributions within or outside the University.

The Department of Kinesiology offers both a bachelor's degree and master's degree and is nationally recognized for excellence in human movement sciences, with signature strengths (e.g., neuromechanics, biomechanics, and performance data science). The Department of Kinesiology is housed within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, which is being positioned to be a major emphasis area of Seattle University's future in line with goals of the institution's Reigniting Strategic Directions.

Qualifications

Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to Seattle University's and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences' mission, vision, and values. Minimum qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in Kinesiology or a closely related discipline
  • A record of scholarly achievement and teaching excellence
  • Evidence of a beginning or sustained program of research with peer-reviewed publications
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and inclusion
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Workplace collegiality

Preferred qualifications:

  • Research expertise in neuro­mechanics, biomechanics, or data/performance science; skill acquisition and motor learning; exercise/sport psychology
  • Experience mentoring faculty and graduate students
  • Success in securing and managing external funding
  • Background or collaborations in applied human performance, data acquisition, and data analysis

Compensation at a Glance

Salary Range: $70,000-$72,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status. Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck. Seattle University provides generous leave, health plans, and retirement contributions that add to your total compensation package.
