Position Description

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University, located in Houston, Texas, seeks applications for an open rank Teaching Track Professor position with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.

We encourage applications from candidates in Statistics, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence, particularly as applied to healthcare and medicine. Candidates with strengths in online and hybrid curriculum development that integrate asynchronous and synchronous instructional modalities, especially in Digital Health (broadly defined), are strongly encouraged to apply.

The selected candidate will be expected to teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses within their area of expertise, contribute to service at the departmental, school, and university levels, and demonstrate knowledge of or a record of using evidence-based pedagogical practices. This is an open-rank teaching-track appointment, and expectations will be commensurate with rank. All candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to high-quality undergraduate instruction, effective teaching practices, and service.

About the Master of Digital Health Program

The Master of Digital Health (MDH) at Rice University is an interdisciplinary graduate program within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering designed to train the next generation of engineer-leaders to shape the future of healthcare innovation. The MDH blends engineering fundamentals with entrepreneurial problem-solving and provides students with strong foundations in statistics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and digital technologies tailored to healthcare applications. Through rigorous coursework, interdisciplinary collaboration with clinicians and industry partners, and a year-long hands-on capstone project addressing real digital health challenges, students gain deep technical and clinical fluency and are prepared for impactful careers in hospitals, health technology companies, and other healthcare environments. The program is closely connected with the Rice Digital Health Initiative and the Houston Methodist-Rice Digital Health Institute, reflecting the department’s commitment to translating cutting-edge research into real-world solutions at the intersection of engineering and medicine.

All candidates must have a PhD degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a closely related field conferred by the year employment commences, and professional experience consistent with the position rank.
