Position Description
The Department of Communication Disorders at Texas State University invites applications for a nine-month, open-rank, tenure-track position to begin in Fall 2026.
Responsibilities include continuing a nationally recognized line of research in the candidate’s area of specialty, seeking extramural funding to support research, teaching courses in the undergraduate or graduate program as needed, and providing service at the department, college, and university levels. Salary is competitive and commensurate with rank, qualifications, and experience.
Required Qualifications
Required for rank of Assistant Professor:
- Terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D) in Communication Disorders or a closely related field.
- ASHA certification (CCC-SLP) and eligibility for clinical licensure in Texas.*
- Strong potential or record of scholarly products (peer-reviewed publications, presentations, etc.).
- Strong potential or history of extramural funding.
*The requirement for CCC‑SLP and/or state licensure may be waived in exceptional cases, upon approval by the Department Chair, Dean, Vice Provost for Faculty Success, and Vice President of Research when a candidate demonstrates:
- A strong, documented track record of extramural funding (external grants and contracts).
- Research productivity and impact commensurate with R1 expectations.
- Willingness and ability to obtain or reinstate CCC‑SLP/licensure if needed for future clinical or accreditation obligations.
Required for the rank of associate professor, in addition to those required above:
- A demonstrated record of teaching excellence
- A strong record of peer-reviewed publications as first author/lead investigator
- A strong record of extramural funding (as PI or co-PI) to support research and other scholarly activity
- Minimum of six years of teaching experience as a full-time faculty member
Required for the rank of professor, in addition to those required above:
- Minimum of 12 years of teaching experience as a full-time faculty member
- Established a national reputation among peers and demonstrated leadership through service to the university, community, and professional organizations.
Preferred Qualifications
An applicant’s qualifications will be evaluated proportionate to their years of service at an institution of higher education. Preference will be given to applicants with the following:
- Pediatric communication disorders
- Record of extramural funding as PI or Co-PI
- Experience in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
