P/T Community Education Instructor

Position Announcement

Community Education at Utah Tech University (CE) is dedicated to offering our customers a variety of courses that cover topics which enrich lives and broaden perspectives. We are continually seeking talented and professional adult educators. The Utah Tech Community Education program has been operating for more than two decades and while the scope of our offerings has changed over the years, the overall mission is the same: Provide affordable, helpful, and enjoyable learning opportunities for the Washington County area. CE classes are non-credit, meaning they do not count toward a college degree. There are no grades, and though instructors may want to assign homework, it is not necessary.

We are especially interested in classes in the following subjects:

  • Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator
  • American Sign Language
  • Art
  • Cooking (Demonstration)
  • Gardening and landscape
  • Ballroom/partner dancing
  • Health/fitness
  • Technology/computers

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver professional subject material
  • Ensure class participation
  • Provide class schedules in timely manner
  • Provide a descriptive and appealing course description, professional bio, and photo
  • Hired instructors will be issued a utahtech.edu email address and will be required to complete several mandatory trainings within 60 days of hire dates

Qualifications

Prospective instructors need demonstrated proficiency/expertise in their proposed course(s), however, formal education in the subject is not always necessary.

Supplemental Information

To Apply: please use the Course Proposal link at the top of the Community Education Registration website.

Salary: Typically Community Education Instructors are paid a per student rate. We aim to enroll a minimum of six students in each class, and set pricing to guarantee a minimum of $20/hour of teaching time. The more students in the class, the higher the pay rate.

Benefits: Free access to Employee Assistance Program thru Blomquist-Hale and HPC Fitness Center/Recreation facilities; no other benefits.

Courses will not be accepted to promote businesses owned and/or operated by the instructor nor that serve as an avenue to set up a business under the auspices of Community Education. Courses may deal with subjects that fall into an instructor's expertise by profession but must be taught from a generic approach with no promotion of outside associations. Instructors who own or are affiliated with a business that relates to the course material may not share sales pitches, offer discounts, distribute business cards, encourage sales or refer people to the business while on Utah Tech premises.
