Utah Tech Special Collections & Archives is seeking a part-time visiting paraprofessional who will specialize in assessing, processing, digitizing, and providing research assistance with archival holdings related to Silver Reef, Utah.
Utah Tech Special Collections & Archives is home to historical records of Utah Tech University and the geographically contiguous areas of Washington and Kane counties, the Arizona Strip, and the Big Muddy region of Nevada
Responsibilities
- Assess, organize, and process archival donations concerning Silver Reef, Utah, including a large collection on Silver Reef archaeology and the work of Dr. Robert L. Schuyler. This includes creating online finding aids and selectively digitizing materials.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and support-oriented skills in working with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
- Excellent computer skills including databases and spreadsheets.
- Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work in a team environment.
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Library, archives, archaeology, or museum experience.
- Knowledge of local history and/or geography, especially of Silver Reef, Utah.
- Some college education or experience working in an academic institution.
- The ability to learn new programs easily.
- Ability to lift and move books, boxes, or other materials (up to 50 pounds).
POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Part-time grant funded position working 20-29 hours per week. Starting hourly rate of $17/hr. This position is expected to last between 18-24 months, depending on the negotiated number of hours worked per week. Expected hours/schedule is negotiable, but must occur within regular weekday hours (Monday-Friday 8am-5pm). Rarely, the successful applicant may be asked to work evening or weekend hours to attend relevant events or programs.
