This position is responsible for the comprehensive setup of research rooms and laboratories, ensuring that all equipment and spaces are properly sanitized and prepared for experimental use. The lead technician operates and validates a variety of sterilization systems, including autoclaves, chlorine dioxide sterilizers, effluent decontamination systems, and tissue digesters, and manages the biological indicator program to ensure compliance with federal biosafety standards. The role includes troubleshooting and coordinating repairs for laboratory equipment, working closely with vendors and facility staff to maintain operational integrity.

They assist with onboarding and training of BSL3 users, escort visitors, and verify protocol compliance. The development, refinement, and maintenance of SOPs for biosafety, biosecurity, and animal husbandry are ongoing responsibilities, requiring collaboration with the PAAR team and principal investigators to tailor procedures to specific laboratory needs. Incident reporting and revision logs are maintained meticulously for audit readiness.

Administrative and Logistical Duties

Administrative and logistical duties are integral to the role, including inventory management, supply ordering, and vendor coordination. The specialist supports database management, maintains facility readiness, and provides emergency and on-call services as needed. Their contributions ensure the seamless operation of the PAAR Facility, uphold the highest standards of biosafety and research integrity, and support the advancement of infectious disease research in a high-containment setting.
