POSITION: PAINTER - COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL

SALARY RANGE: C16 $50,539.44 - $73,385.74

LOCATION: FCM-MAINTENANCE

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of a Crew Supervisor, applies paint, and other coating materials to various surfaces from ground level and/or scaffolds, platforms, aerial lifts, and ladders at various heights, using brushes, rollers, and spray guns; uses pressure washers to clean and prepare surfaces for paining and/or beautification, moves furniture and equipment as needed or required to complete painting task, including but not limited to removing light or outlet covers and/or moldings and window coverings. Follows accepted methods using proper materials and/or tools in order to prepare various surfaces for painting; cares for and cleans standard painting tools; covers work area and preserves non-paintable surfaces. Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty, spackle, or other fillers to make a suitable surface for the finish coat. Prepares new sheet rock for painting, and does other related work as required to perform restorations or renovations.

REQUIREMENTS: The painter position is a recognized trade, and the journeyman obtains expertise through apprenticeship or equivalent experience in which the tools, techniques, and materials, associated with the work as learned. The painter works under the general supervision of a Foreman M/W or other appropriate supervisor, moves from job to job, and works both inside and outside using materials and techniques appropriate to each specific job. The painter may work alone or as a member of a group. The individual uses some independent judgement in determining how surfaces should be prepared, receiving job assignments from the supervisor who is also consulted as needed on job requirements; desired, etc. Depending on the job size, difficulty, and/ or special problems, the work may be checked while in progress or after completion. Painter is responsible for lettering new signs and re-lettering old signs, including removal and installation of signage.

This role frequently requires physically demanding tasks like lifting, carrying, and moving heavy items. The specific weight requirements can vary and may include lifting or moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds, with occasional lifting or moving of up to 75 pounds or even 100 pounds. For weights exceeding those typically lifted manually, expect to utilize proper equipment (jacks, hoists, cranes, etc.) and potentially assistance from other workers.

Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and reaching. Dexterity and fine motor control for tool manipulation and detailed work. Working in various environments, including confined spaces, noisy areas, and potentially outdoors in different weather conditions.

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of experience in work involving the painting and repainting of the interior and exterior of buildings and structures. NOTE: Applicants not having the experience may meet the requirements if they have the following: Successful completion of an apprentice painting program approved by the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training.

LICENSE: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Provisional appointment pending an examination given by the Civil Service Commission.
