Job Summary:
This role is responsible for applying coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and other structures.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Performance Requirements
- Reads work orders or receives instructions from supervisor regarding painting surfaces, removes old paint and prepares surfaces for painting with brushes, spray guns, or paint rollers; cleans and cares for brushes, spray guns, and other equipment
- Generates work orders ensuring comprehensive job details, including labor hours and materials used, are entered
- Selects premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors
- Applies primers, sealers, stains, and varnishes to the correct surfaces
- Applies paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers to simulate special effects such as wood grain, marble, brick, or tile effects
- Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other filler and reports need for carpentry repairs to supervisor
- Removes fixtures such as pictures and electric switch covers from walls prior to painting
- Spreads drop cloths over floors and room furnishings, and covers surfaces such as baseboards, doorframes, and windows with masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting
- Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to perform tasks above ground level
- Washes surfaces prior to painting with mildew remover and cleans worksite after the job is complete, including removing debris and returning the area to its previous condition
- Adheres to all safety rules and regulations to create a safe working environment
Service Excellence
- Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
- Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
- Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College
Supervision
Works under the general supervision of the assigned campus leader
*Performs Other Related Tasks as Required
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED
- Three (3) years' working experience as a journeyman painter
- A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completed vocational or technical painting program
- Current Pro Painter Certificate, National Association of Home Builders’ Certified Painter, MPI Essentials of Paint and Painting Technology, MPI Maintenance Repainting Specification, or related certificate from a recognized painting apprenticeship program
