Job Summary
The Paralegal provides professional research and data analysis in support of the Chief Legal Officer and Associate Counsel. This role reviews contracts and identifies key concerns.
Core Responsibilities
- Gathers and analyzes information on a wide range of topics and prepares documents and reports.
- Researches statutes, regulations, cases, and UT System rules and policies and identifies and applies the relevant authority to the situation.
- Assists in identifying and gathering relevant facts and proposing solutions to issues raised.
- Assists in the review of contracts. Identifies key issues/concerns with a wide variety of contracts. Mentors and guides contract professionals on campus to ensure transactions are properly documented and that contracts will satisfy all applicable requirements. Works with contract professionals to re-draft and negotiate business or operational provisions in contracts.
- Assists the Legal team with research and review of documents and interviewing of witnesses.
- Acts as back-up for department budget responsibilities.
- Compiles, reviews, and organizes evidence, exhibits, and documents. Serves as the point of contact for the gathering of information.
- Assists the Office of Legal Affairs in responding to and coordinating requests from the UT System, the State Attorney General's Office, and other agencies regarding claims, lawsuits, and legal matters.
- Interprets policies and procedures, as required, and advises University personnel and committees on policies, rules, and regulations.
- Manages databases, files, and project and suspense logs for Counsel.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree or training program leading to a certificate in the field of legal administration, legal or paralegal studies.
- One (1) year of paralegal or legal administrative experience.
- This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Working Conditions
- Office Environment. Occasional travel to outside meetings and/or legal proceedings.
Physical Demands
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Ability to lift with or without accommodations. Repeated kneeling, stooping, walking, and sitting for extended periods of time. Ability to crawl under desks/furniture for inspection of cables and troubleshooting purposes.
This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
