JOB DESCRIPTION
A part-time (50%) indivisible position in the field of the “Sustainable and energy-efficient restoration of existing buildings” within the Department of Architecture. This position includes teaching and research activities as well as services to the community.
TEACHING ACTIVITIES
- The post-holder will mainly intervene in the Technology of the Built Environment Bachelor’s course (TB0 01, 05 and 06) and the Sciences and Techniques Master’s course (ST 03). They will occasionally contribute to Masters’ workshop projects, providing specific expertise in the fields of energy efficiency and renovation. They will also be expected to supervise two final projects connected to these themes.
- The aim is to enable students to acquire:
- A critical understanding of the built environment, its constructive and cultural specificities;
- An ability to develop a multi-criteria approach based on the integrated analysis of themes relating to sustainable and energy-efficient renovation (materiality, pathologies, thermal and hygrometric behaviour, reuse, circularity, etc.);
- An ability to dialogue with various actors in the sector (engineers, design offices, public authorities) and to use modelling and evaluation tools to check the relevance of proposals.
RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
- The post-holder shall develop research work in the field of the sustainable and energy-efficient renovation of existing buildings, both old and contemporary. This research may cover themes such as:
- The physics of construction and flow management (air, steam, light)
- Interior comfort (heat, acoustics, respiratory), including use;
- Constructive systems, structures and materials;
- The sustainability and circularity of interventions (Design for Adaptability, Design for Disassembly, Design for Reuse);
- Links to the built environment and the challenges of restoration and reconversion.
- They will be encouraged to work within national and international networks which are active on these issues, particularly the New European Bauhaus and the House Europe initiative, with which the Faculty is associated.
SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY
- The applicant shall participate in the governance of the Faculty of Architecture and the University (committees, various bodies) and will contribute to the reputation of the Sciences and Techniques stream. They will also be expected to build partnerships with public authorities, actors in the construction sector, and civil society, in connection with the themes of refurbishment, sustainability and energy renovation.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED / PROFILE
- Hold an architecture or civil engineering architecture degree or equivalent;
- Hold a doctorate connected to the subject matter of the position;
- Demonstrate active research on the subject matter of the position;
- Demonstrate an ability to work in a team in terms of teaching and research;
- Demonstrate an openness to inter- and trans-disciplinary approaches and, more specifically, the Human and Social Sciences and “Science Studies”;
- Produce evidence of confirmed expertise in the field of restoration and/or energy renovation of buildings
The following will be considered as plus points:
- Experience in higher education teaching (supervising exercises, workshops)
- Proven expertise in modelling, simulation and evaluation of energy and environmental efficiency;
- Field experience and experience of monitoring renovation / refurbishment projects
- Experience of research or scientific collaboration regarding European energy and circular transition policies;
- Involvement in scientific networks or learned societies in the field of energy refurbishment/renovation of the built environment.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
- There are several stages to the selection procedure. A recruitment committee shall shortlist applicants on the basis of their qualifications and skills. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an oral interview which will include a mock teaching situation and a presentation of the field of research and future developments within the Faculty.

- A full list of publications, indicating the five most significant publications in relation to the post, and a compilation of the abstracts of these publications.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The position is awarded either for a fixed term of four years, or, in certain exceptional circumstances, immediately on a permanent basis.
If a fixed term contract is awarded, an evaluation will be carried out at the end of the third year.
- If the evaluation is negative, the person’s appointment will end after the fourth year.
- If the evaluation is positive, the person will be appointed permanently.

REMUNERATION
Basic appointments are made at the grade of lecturer.
The gross monthly salary at the start of the scale (on a full-time basis) is currently €5,992.58, to which is added an end of year allowance (in December) and a holiday allowance (in June).
In exception circumstances, the Faculty may submit a substantiated application to obtain a higher grade in the salary scale (length-of-service bonus).
The career of full-time teaching staff includes the grades of lecturer, professor, and full professor. Career development (after the recruitment grade) is possible through the promotions’ procedure, the terms and conditions of which are defined by the Board of Directors.
