About the Job

Applications are invited for part-time adjunct faculty positions in Physics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy. These Adjunct faculty positions are non-tenure-track appointments for fall semester 2026 and possibly for spring semester 2027 as well, with possible extension as needed by the department. The primary role of this position is to teach, and a typical appointment would be one to two classes a semester.

Applicants should be able to teach introductory physics courses, show evidence of teaching excellence, and demonstrate a commitment to working with a diverse student population. Assignments to upper-level physics and/or astronomy courses are possible, depending on qualifications.

Duties & Responsibilities include developing and teaching courses, demonstrating high command of the subject matter, having well organized course plans and delivering courses clearly to students, helping students fulfill their academic needs, assessing and grading student learning, and holding office hours.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. (assistant professor) or M.S. (instructor) or equivalent experience such as advanced Ph.D. candidate status in Physics, Astronomy, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited university
  • A minimum of one year of experience teaching (as a TA or a primary instructor) a diverse group of students at the undergraduate level, including ability in oral and written communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate-level teaching experience beyond conventional TA duties.
  • Experience teaching in an active classroom setting.
  • Ability to enthusiastically attract students to the field of physics including those students who traditionally have been underrepresented in the STEM fields
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative environment.

About the Department

The Department of Physics and Astronomy offers B.S. and B.A. degrees in Physics, a BS in Engineering Physics, and a M.S. in Physics. The campus is located in northeastern Minnesota at the tip of Lake Superior, is the home of the Large Lakes Observatory, and is approximately 150 miles north of Minneapolis/St. Paul and also 150 miles south of the NOvA experiment Ash River Laboratory. The department has 14 full time faculty and research strengths in astrophysics, particle physics, condensed matter physics, and physical oceanography/limnology. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $49,687.00 - $99,999.00 per year ; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
