Part-Time Adjunct Instructor - Spanish
Description
Southwestern College is seeking dynamic and qualified part-time instructors to teach Spanish in person. Ideal candidates are available to teach the following: beginner and intermediate levels for Spanish Program and/or beginner, intermediate levels and advanced levels for Spanish for Bilingual or Heritage Speakers Program. Ideal candidates have experience teaching in various modalities (in person, hybrid or online). This position may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, and extension site assignments. Successful candidates may be assigned to any of the campus sites (Chula Vista, National City, Otay Mesa, San Ysidro), local high schools, extension sites and/or local correctional facilities.
Teach Spanish courses with a focus on communication skills, including Interpretive, Presentational, and Interpersonal Modes (as per ACTFL guidelines). Develop students' understanding of Spanish grammar, vocabulary and linguistic structures. Incorporate the study of the culture, traditions, and perspectives of Spanish-speaking countries into lessons. Use a variety of teaching methods to engage students and enhance their language acquisition. Evaluate student progress through assessments, assignments, and participation.
Qualifications
Masters in Spanish OR Bachelors in Spanish AND Masters in another language or linguistics OR the equivalent.
Additional assessment is required for applicants with foreign degrees from colleges or universities outside of the United States. Applicants must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) and must submit a copy of the evaluation with the application.

- Collaborating in adopting/developing Open Educational Resources (OER) and/or gearing courses toward Zero Textbook Cost/Low Cost Texbook.
