Founded in 1986, St. Charles Community College (SCC) has a

The
Part-time Assistant Track & Field Coach is
responsible for assisting the Head Track & Field/Cross Country
Coach in all aspects of the men's and women's track & field
program, with primary responsibility for the throwing events (shot
put, discus, hammer, and javelin). The assistant coach will support
student-athlete success through coaching, recruiting, academic
monitoring, and program administration while promoting the mission
and values of St. Charles Community College and complying with
NJCAA and institutional regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Previous coaching and/or competitive experience in the throwing
events preferred.
Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and
interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively with administrators, faculty,
athletic staff, student-athletes, and community members.
Ability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and travel as
required.
Commitment to fostering academic, athletic, and personal
success for student-athletes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coaching
- Coach and develop student-athletes in the throwing events,
including shot put, discus, hammer, and javelin.
- Plan and conduct daily practices, technical instruction, and
event-specific training.
- Attend and coach at all team practices, competitions, and
postseason events.
- Assist in implementing strength and conditioning programs for
throwers.
- Evaluate athlete performance and provide individualized
instruction and feedback.
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and leadership
among student-athletes.
Recruiting
- Recruit qualified prospective student-athletes who meet NJCAA
and institutional admission requirements.
- Conduct recruiting calls, emails, and virtual communication
with prospective student-athletes.
- Attend high school meets, club competitions, and recruiting
events.
- Coordinate campus visits, recruiting weekends, and
communication with admissions and financial aid.
- Build relationships with high school and club coaches.
Academic Support & Student Development
- Monitor student-athlete academic progress and eligibility.
- Encourage academic success through regular communication with
faculty, advisors, and academic support services.
- Mentor student-athletes in personal growth, time management,
and leadership.
- Assist with monitoring student conduct and reinforcing team
expectations.
Program Operations
- Assist with practice planning and meet preparation.
- Coordinate travel logistics, including transportation, lodging,
meals, travel itineraries, and travel rosters.
- Assist with meet entries and competition management.
- Maintain accurate team records, statistics, and throwing
performance data.
- Assist with inventory, maintenance, and ordering of throwing
equipment and uniforms.
- Ensure safe operation of throwing venues and equipment.
Compliance
- Ensure compliance with NJCAA, Region 16, conference, and St.
Charles Community College policies and procedures.
- Assist with eligibility documentation and required compliance
paperwork.
- Support institutional policies regarding student-athlete
conduct, safety, and eligibility.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Meet regularly with the Head Coach regarding practice plans,
recruiting, competition schedules, athlete development, and program
goals.
- Assist with fundraising initiatives, community outreach, youth
camps, clinics, and volunteer activities.
- Support home meet operations and other athletic department
events as assigned.
- Assist the Athletic Department with additional operational or
administrative duties as needed.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Head Track &
Field/Cross Country Coach or Athletic Director.
