PART-TIME CASUAL, CAMPUS STORE CASHIER
Job Summary
Provide retail sales and customer services within the Campus Stores. Process merchandise sales to include operating the point-of-sale systems and cash registers. Assist customers with locating merchandise, help receive merchandise into the store, maintain stockrooms in an orderly manner, and provide assistance within other areas of the Campus Stores.
Supervision
This position reports to the General Manager of Campus Stores.
Essential Duties
- Process sales transactions in the Campus Stores, including cash, check, ID Express, and charge cards; receive monies and disburse change. Maintain cash register supplies; request change as needed to ensure adequate currency in the drawer. Take incoming phone calls and contact customers via phone or email.
- Assist in opening and closing the Campus Stores to include putting out the cash drawers in the morning and removing all currency, slips, and paperwork from the drawers at the close of business. Run the End of Day Report for all registers that are used. Checking security of windows and doors.
- Assist in processing the Campus Stores E-commerce web orders, help customers in locating merchandise and offer suggestions for alternative or additional merchandise. Help maintain window and counter displays, if needed. Conduct visual surveillance of retail sales area and alert appropriate personnel of suspected shoplifting activities.
- Retrieve merchandise from the stockroom and stock sales floor; notify management of out of stocks on items. Maintain the stockroom in an orderly fashion, so it is easy for employees to stock merchandise on the sales floor. Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly sales floor.
Qualifications
High School diploma and one-year of retail cashiering experience with a strong attention to detail; good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work well with the public with an emphasis on customer service; ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously; basic skills and working knowledge of computer operating systems and their usage including a retail point-of-sale operating system and demonstrated ability to operate a computerized register/terminal; flexibility to work evenings and weekends are required.
Work Environment
Most of the work of the incumbent is carried out within a generally accessible, safe, indoor environment. The incumbent will be required to operate a point-of-sale system as well as other computer-related equipment. The incumbent will be required to bend and kneel and lift materials weighing up to 25 pounds. The incumbent will be required to work some nights and weekends in support of campus events.
