Position Title: Part-Time Dance Coach
Reports To: Executive Director of Athletics or Associate Athletic Director
Status: Part-Time, Stipend

Position Summary

The Part-Time Dance Coach is responsible for the overall management, development, and success of the Anna Maria College Dance Team. This includes recruiting, coaching, teaching choreography, ensuring team safety and compliance, and representing the program in a manner consistent with the mission and values of Anna Maria College. The coach must foster a positive environment that supports the academic, athletic, and personal growth of all student-athletes.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Coaching and Instruction:
   • Develop and implement a comprehensive practice schedule and lesson plans for all team practices, performances, and competitions.
   • Teach, demonstrate, and correct proper technique across various dance styles (e.g., Jazz, Hip-Hop, Pom, Lyrical/Contemporary) as required by the program’s focus.
   • Choreograph and teach all routines for performances (e.g., sporting events, campus events) and competitive routines.
   • Develop individualized and team goals, conducting regular evaluations to monitor progress.
   • Implement appropriate conditioning, strength, and safety training to prevent injuries.
   • Conduct two dance classes for AMC Students. One each semester.
2. Team Management and Administration:
   • Manage the team’s operating budget, including tracking expenses for travel, uniforms, equipment, and competition fees.
   • Coordinate all travel logistics for competitions, performances, and team events.
   • Maintain accurate inventory of uniforms, costumes, and equipment, ensuring they are properly cared for and stored.
   • Manage team communications via email, text, or team apps.
   • Secure practice and performance facilities in coordination with the Athletics or Student Life office.
3. Student-Athlete Development and Compliance:
   • Serve as a positive role model, mentor, and leader for all team members.
   • Monitor student-athlete academic progress to ensure all participants maintain eligibility requirements.
   • Establish and enforce clear rules, standards of conduct, and disciplinary policies for the team.
   • Educate student-athletes on safety, sportsmanship, and appropriate collegiate conduct.
   • Ensure the team adheres to all institutional, conference (if applicable), and any relevant national dance association (e.g., UDA/NDA) guidelines.
4. Recruitment and Program Development:
   • Actively recruit qualified student-athletes to sustain and grow the Dance Team roster.
   • Maintain a database of prospective students and communicate with them throughout the recruitment process.
   • Organize and conduct tryouts for incoming and returning students.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Previous coaching and/or competitive dance experience, preferably at the high school, club, or collegiate level.
• Demonstrated proficiency in choreography and instruction across multiple dance genres.
• Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain one upon hire.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends for practices, games, and events.
• Strong organizational, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions

• Work is typically performed in a gymnasium, studio, or event setting.
• Requires frequent standing, demonstrating physical movements, and lifting/moving equipment.
• Requires travel with the team to scheduled events, which may include overnight stays.

$8,000 to $12,000 per season
