Part-Time Faculty - Head Softball Coach/Kinesiology
The El Camino College District is now accepting applications for the part time position of Head Softball Coach and Kinesiology instructor. The primary assignment will be as the assigned Head Coach for the Softball program within the department of athletics. Duties include assisting in coordinating all aspects of practice and competition in the South Coast Conference, recruitment of high school athletes under the rules and regulations of the 3C2A.
Also included is the assisting in advising and supporting student-athletes in meeting academic goals and preparing for transfer to four-year institutions. Contribute to coordinating off-season training activities. Manage team budgets, equipment purchases, and organize fundraising, marketing, and promotional efforts within the program.
Principle assignment will be teaching Kinesiology in the Division of Kinesiology, Athletics & Public Safety. Emphasis in program areas including athletics, fitness/wellness, health, first aid, exercise science and recreation. Responsibilities to include 15-16 lecture/lab hours teaching per semester, office hours, faculty meetings, student activities, preparation/research, committee assignments and curriculum/instructional development. Secondary assignment will include Intercollegiate Athletics. Under the direction of the Dean and Athletic Director, serve as the Head Softball Coach. Intercollegiate duties shall include leadership and supervision of students in the intercollegiate athletic program. Instruction essential to successful team and individual accomplishment such as skill, sportsmanship and scholarship shall be emphasized. Responsibilities will include the following: year round advisement, recruitment, organization, coordination and implementation of program needs. Coordinate and communicate all aspects of instructional courses, practice and competition, organize team schedules for district approval, coordinate team support efforts, equipment, supplies, meals, transportation and travel requests as well as preparing and adhering to annual budgets and timelines. Work with staff throughout the campus community in areas such injury prevention, strength and conditioning, tutoring, counseling and advisement. Program advancement shall be within the rules and regulations of the California Community District.
Faculty assignments may include morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend hours. Dual enrollment, distance education, on-line or hybrid with required distance education certification assignments are voluntary. For faculty who are interested in teaching online or hybrid courses, completion of El Camino College's distance education certification process is required or submission of a waiver with evidence of prior certification to develop and teach quality online courses.
Faculty may participate in initiatives set forth by the College that support students to achieve their educational goals through collaborations with employers, advisory committees, industry/trade groups, universities, high schools, or other partnerships with related instructional disciplines.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercises or adaptive physical education; OR
- Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy; OR
- The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualification(s) as stated on this announcement must complete the Request For Equivalency Form as part of the application process to explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR
- Valid California community college instructor credential in appropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990 (per California Education Code 87355); AND
- Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socio-economic, academic, and cultural diversity within student populations, including students with disabilities, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated successful university level or community college softball coaching experience.
- Demonstrated successful teaching experience preferable at the community college level.
- Demonstrated experience in counseling students toward achieving positive academic and athletic progress.
- Recent head coach experience in a community college or four year institution coaching women's softball.
- Recent instructional experience in more than one field of kinesiology or physical education specifically exercise physiology, first aid, contemporary health or CPR.
- Preferred certifications in First Aid, CPR strength and conditioning, Yoga or exercise science.
- Demonstrated experience using student learning outcomes assessment to improve student learning, program review, and curriculum review.
Licenses or Other Requirements:
Valid California Driver's license
SALARY:
Part-time faculty are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester and on cumulative semesters of instruction for the District. The beginning rate is, $98.67- $118.84 (lecture), $88.80-$106.96 (lab), (based on FT salary schedule for summer/winter) $116.73- $146.27 (lecture), $88.47-$110.84 (lab), (based on PT salary schedule fall/spring) per hour depending on education and experience.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a part-time, faculty and coaching position for the Softball program, beginning summer 2026. Assignments may include off-site locations.
