DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
Instruction:
- Teaches classes as assigned, following current approved course outlines
- Meets during scheduled class times
- Prepares and develops materials for assigned classes/labs according to program expectations
- Provides students with class syllabi
- Delivers course content using appropriate methods for student needs and program curriculum
Course Management & Student Success:
- Provides a classroom environment conducive to learner growth
- Understands, develops, and provides a learning environment that supports diversity and incorporates a sensitivity to diversity in the workplace
- Maintains student records of grades and attendance in accordance with college procedures
- Responds to student inquiries and provides feedback in a timely manner
- Communicates available college resources to students
Instructional Program Responsibilities:
- Maintains timely communication with college program and supervisor
- Stays current on program goals, processes and outcomes
- Participates in program assessment and college accreditation
Teaching and Learning Values:
- Creates a learning climate of mutual respect and fairness

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate must meet one of the following sets of qualifications to teach:
Certification showing mastery in one or more of the following areas:
- Cardio & Core, Pilates, Total Body Training, Zumba, Strength Training, Functional Training, Group Exercise, Walking/Jogging, Conditioning, Sports Conditioning, Ultimate Games, Yoga
AND
Teaching or coaching experience
AND
At least one (1) year of personal participation or playing experience in the sport or discipline you wish to teach
-OR-
Teaching or coaching experience
AND
At least three (3) years of personal participation or playing experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Salsa, Hip Hop, Modern Dance, Jazz, Martial Arts, Self-Defense
Core Competencies
- Commitment to college-level health and human performance
- Demonstrable experience providing culturally responsive instruction
- Sound understanding of the community college learning environment and a commitment to the comprehensive community college mission
- Desire, ability, and dedication to employ technology as an effective instructional tool in the face-to-face and distance delivery of courses
- Desire and commitment to create a classroom environment focused on active learning in which all students are welcomed and encouraged to participate
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, educational partners, and community members who span a diverse range of cultures, languages, nationalities, and educational experiences
- Ability to demonstrate effective teaching to adult learners
- Bicultural/multicultural skills sufficient to select appropriate behaviors, values and attitudes within different cultures during interactions with others
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates Degree from an accredited institution
- Experience teaching physical education classes
- Experience in a community college setting
- Bilingual English/Spanish
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
- This position belongs to the bargaining unit and begins at Step 1. Please refer to current salary schedules here for more information.
- All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
- Requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
- Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.
- Recently hired faculty are expected to participate in a new faculty orientation program
- Successful applicants for designated positions must successfully pass a background inquiry, which may include criminal, driving, credit and full background checks. Only information relevant to the position will be considered. An individual with negative information on their background inquiry will not necessarily be denied employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary requirements are met.
