PART-TIME INSTRUCTOR, YOUTH & PRE-COLLEGE

Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) at Willamette University invites applications for a part-time faculty pool in the Youth & Pre-College Department to teach in Summer 2025, Fall 2025, and/or Spring 2026.

We are currently seeking instructors for the following courses:

• Day Class (Observational Drawing, Poster Design, or other topic TBD) - April 19th OR April 26th, Spring 2025
• Foundation Intensive (2 sessions) - Summer 2025
• Design + Creative Technology Intensive (1 session) - Summer 2025
• Half-day classes, topics in Indie Media, Design + Creative Technology, Creativity + Society, and Studio Art - Fall 2025, Spring 2026
• Day classes, topics in Indie Media, Design + Creative Technology, Creativity + Society, and Studio Art - Fall 2025, Spring 2026

Each course meets in-person in downtown Portland, Oregon, at the Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Center for Art and Design. Class times vary by program (Intensives are two weeks long, with 6.5 hours of class time per day and a wrap-up event, while classes are only one day, with 3.75 to 6.25 hours of class time). PNCA offers a syllabus rate to account for time spent developing a syllabus, Canvas site, and other class materials, in addition to a per-program rate for instruction. The faculty member may also be expected to spend a small amount of time outside of class doing preparation; this is accounted for in the per-program rate. General curriculum and format guidelines are available for longer-form programs (see the linked titles above). The Community Programs Coordinator is also available to provide support with syllabus and Canvas site development.

TAs are required for multi-day programs. For one-day classes, instructors may request either a TA or day-of support from the Community Programs Coordinator.

The ideal candidate will have teaching experience as well as Design and/or Studio Art experience, but we are open to considering candidates with experience in the Arts who have not taught previously. Artists and designers of all disciplines are welcome.

Required Qualifications

• MFA in relevant field OR equivalent professional experience
• Demonstrated achievement and involvement in relevant artistic field
• Ability to reliably commute to PNCA for the duration of the program

Preferred Qualifications

• Teaching experience (especially working with students ages 14-18)
• Experience creating syllabi and crafting student learning questions
• Knowledge of critical and inclusive pedagogies
