The School of Journalism and Communication invites applications for the post of a part-time Lecturer to teach a postgraduate course in the MSc programme in New Media. Applicants with a strong regional perspective and knowledge about ongoing technical developments of new media are especially welcome to apply.
The appointee is expected to teach the following course:
New media and computing – This course provides students with hands-on experience in using computational tools related to new media technologies. The computing tools will equip students with an understanding of data-driven products and services, as well as how to incorporate new technologies for digital transformation to meet market demands. The course should cover the following items including but not limited to: front-end (HTML/CSS/JS) and back-end (Python/SQL) coding skills, web scraping and data acquisition (sourcing, cleaning, filtering, aggregation, modelling, evaluation and visualization), API, web & mobile programming, as well as recent AI-assisted development (e.g., automated testing, intelligent documentation, and security vulnerability detection). The appointee should be capable of teaching students with limited technical background and conducting the course in English.
Applicants should preferably have a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline, or a Master’s degree with at least 8 years of directly relevant experience. Experience in teaching or research on the topic will be an advantage.
Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for around 5 months commencing January 2027, renewable subject to mutual agreement and performance.
