The Hannah Arendt Center seeks a Part-Time Program Assistant to support its academic and public-facing programming. This position plays an important role in advancing the Center’s mission by providing administrative, organizational, and communications support to the Director of Academic Programs.
This position is well-suited for a graduate student, early-career professional, or experienced professional seeking flexible, part-time work in an intellectually engaged environment. It may be particularly appealing to individuals looking for consistent supplemental income with a schedule that can accommodate other professional or personal commitments.
The position is approximately 7 hours per week and reports directly to the Director of Academic Programs.
About the Hannah Arendt Center:
The Hannah Arendt Center’s mission is to create and nurture an institutional space for bold, risky, and provocative thinking about our political world in the spirit of Hannah Arendt, empowering individuals to (re)discover their unique opinions and political agency while also finding common ground to build a shared world. The Center advances this mission through interdisciplinary scholarship, public programming, and engagement with contemporary issues, hosting lectures, conferences, and initiatives such as the Hannah Arendt Yearbook and the Visiting Scholar program, fostering dialogue across academic and public communities.
Responsibilities:
- Providing support for the Quote of the Week program (editing, formatting, communications)
- Assisting with coordination of the Visiting Scholar program
- Supporting the planning and execution of public events, lectures, and ongoing initiatives
- Assisting with communications and outreach efforts
- Providing general administrative and organizational support as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Reliability and consistent availability for weekly responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Interest in political theory, humanities, or related fields
- Experience with academic programming, communications, or event coordination
- Familiarity with Bard College and/or the Hannah Arendt Center

Compensation: $27 - $29 per hour
This salary range reflects the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for the position at the time of the job posting. Salary decisions are dependent on several factors including but not limited to market and organizational considerations, experience, and qualifications of a selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
Appointment:
This is a part-time position (approximately 7 hours per week). The position will remain open until filled. The schedule is flexible, and hours may be arranged in coordination with the Director of Academic Programs. Much of the work may be performed remotely; however, preference will be given to candidates who are local and available to participate in occasional on-campus activities and events as needed.
