Position: Part-time Research Assistant (Start date: May 2026)
Project Details: MindScapes: EEG-Driven Virtual Reality for Emotional Regulation and User-Centric Testing
This research project investigates the integration of real-time EEG biofeedback with immersive VR environments to support emotional regulation and mental well-being. The study focuses on developing and validating an accessible, user-centered system that combines art therapy principles, meditation techniques, and culturally-inspired spatial design. Through structured user testing, the project aims to refine the system's adaptive feedback mechanisms and evaluate its effectiveness in promoting emotional relief and self-awareness. Key Responsibilities:
The appointee will assist the Principal Investigator in the following tasks:
• Organizing and coordinating user testing sessions, including participant scheduling and venue setup
• Recording and documenting user interactions during VR testing sessions
• Collecting and organizing quantitative data (EEG metrics, engagement duration, system performance)
• Assisting with the administration and collection of questionnaires and feedback forms
• Transcribing and organizing qualitative data from semi-structured interviews
• Maintaining organized databases of user testing results and feedback
• Supporting prototype iteration and debugging processes when needed
• Assisting with preliminary data analysis and visualization
• Contributing to the preparation of research documentation and reports
Requirements:
• A bachelor's degree or current enrollment in a program related to Psychology, Sociology, Human-Computer Interaction, Digital Media, Computer Science, or related disciplines
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in data collection and management
• Basic familiarity with VR technology and user experience testing (training will be provided)
• Excellent interpersonal skills for participant interaction and coordination
• Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese/Putonghua)
• Experience with data entry and basic statistical software (e.g., Excel, SPSS) is an advantage
• Interest in mental health, meditation, or emotional well-being research is preferred
• Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality of research data
Terms of Appointment:
• The appointment is on a part-time basis (approximately 10–15 hours per week during testing phases, totaling 70 hours over the project period)
• Working hours will be flexible but may include some weekends to accommodate participant availability
• Remuneration: HK$100 per hour
• Duration: June 2026 – September 2026 (approximately 3 months)
