Pay: $13 - $18 per hour (Pay range may vary based on geographic location)

Job Summary:
The tutoring center is seeking part-time student tutors to hold walk-in, group tutoring sessions for Columbia College students in the following subjects: accounting, behavioral statistics, biology, chemistry, computer science, finance, management information systems, math, nursing, and physics. Minimum qualifications include significant progress towards a bachelor’s degree, as well as excellent organizational and communication skills. Prior tutoring experience is preferred in all subjects. Applicants must be current Columbia College students. Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis.

Essential Functions:

  • Hold two to sixteen (2-16) regularly-scheduled hours per week of tutoring, as agreed upon with supervisor.
  • Tutor students directly in content and study skills for tutor’s assigned courses.
  • Spend down time during tutoring sessions reviewing course content, texts, and concepts.
  • Maintain accurate records of student visits to tutoring sessions.
  • Maintain contact with Tutoring Coordinator and faculty.
  • Participate in biannual professional development meetings.

Skills:

  • Ability to fluently read, write and understand the English language.
  • Proficiency with the following, but not limited to: active listening; speaking; writing; critical thinking; judgment and decision making; monitoring; reading comprehension; time management; coordination; and management of personnel resources.
  • Proficiency for using a variety of computer and technology-related software and equipment, including Microsoft Office products and database systems.
  • Proficiency for using web-based technologies, including database systems.
  • Ability to work independently or team environment, with or without direct supervision.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service and organizational skills with all constituents.

Education:

  • Significant progress towards a bachelor’s degree

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is rarely exposed to outside weather conditions; however, possible exposure to hazards and physical risks to personal safety may occur while operating certain equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually mild.
