Job Description:
Summary:
The Peer Assisted Student Support (PASS) Program is hiring Peer Tutors to support AU students through one-on-one and small group tutoring. Tutors help their peers strengthen course understanding, practice study skills, and build confidence in their academic success.
Essential Functions:
- Peer-Assisted Student Support (PASS) Tutors: Support high-demand undergraduate and graduate courses in both one-on-one and drop-in formats.
- Science Hours Tutors: Provide in-person, drop-in tutoring for STEM courses (Biology, Chemistry, Neuroscience, and Physics) during Science Hours, held Wednesdays from 3:00–5:00 pm in the Hall of Sciences, Room 113.
- Student-Athlete Support Program (SASP) Tutors: Recruited by Student Academic Services and hired by SASP. Student-athletes schedule sessions with SASP Tutors based on tutor availability.
Note: Peer Tutors may serve in more than one of the above roles if schedules allow.
Competencies:
- Provide tutoring in-person (Butler Pavilion 300) and/or online via Zoom.
- Prepare for sessions by reviewing course concepts and planning questions or activities.
- Record attendance and manage appointments through WCOnline.
- Observe another tutor and provide feedback.
- Meet regularly with PASS staff for training and coaching.
- Submit accurate timesheets in Workday on time.
- Distribute end-of-semester surveys for program evaluation.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- Part-time.
- Student.
- Availability of at least 4–6 consecutive hours per week.
Salary Range:
- $17.95 - $18.50 per hour (commensurate with experience).
- In-person tutoring remains paid for all scheduled hours, whether or not students attend.
Required Education and Experience:
- Current AU student (full-time undergraduate, 5-year AU graduate, post-bac, or graduate).
- Earned an A or A- in the course(s) to be tutored or a related upper-level AU course.
- Maintain a 3.0 cumulative and term GPA.
- Faculty recommendation in the subject area.
- Commitment to attend training at the start of the semester and ongoing workshops.
