Your Role on the Team
Position Summary:
Under the direction and supervision of the pathologist, the Pathologist Assistant (PA) is responsible for the examination, description, dissection of anatomic pathology specimens and assists with frozen sections and autopsy procedures. Supervise gross room staff, assure efficient work flow and ensure procedures comply with accreditation and regulatory standards. Ensure quality control, quality assurance, and compliance measures are maintained. Teach and train pathology residents, PA students, medical students and pathology laboratory staff. Provide technical expertise in the performance of surgical pathology tests and procedures. Photograph specimens including gross postmortem specimens. Assess the adequacy for renal biopsies in interventional radiology. Prepare tissue for numerous pathological tests including frozen section, tumor bank, image analysis, electron microscopy, immunofluorescence, cultures, flow cytometry, drug resistant assays, and immunohistochemical staining. The PA assists with administrative functions, maintenance of protocols, procedures, QA/QC, and instruments and will perform teaching and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
- Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
- Knowledge of laws and regulatory requirements relating to decedent affairs
- Knowledge of laws and regulatory requirements for CAP, JCAHO and California State laboratory law for Anatomic Pathology
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Completion of a 2-year Pathology Assistant program and Pathology Assistant board certified or eligible by hire date
- Completion of a 2-year Pathologists' Assistant program (NAACLS accredited) and ASCP Board Certified
- Bachelor's Degree in a Science field
- Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a UC and/or union environment
- Experience in an Anatomic Pathology department
