Patient Access Representative, Inpatient Follow Up (Part Time Days, 12p-8p)
At Stony Brook Medicine, our Patient Access Representatives are responsible for completing varied, diverse and specialized duties to support the Revenue Cycle, Compliance and Patient Experience by accurately and efficiently completing tasks in areas of Registration, Financial Screening and Verification, and patient throughput.
Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, knowledge and understanding of patient care and effectively respond to changing patient needs by making decisions based on ethical principles and adhering to our high standard of excellence.
The Patient Access Representative assigned to Inpatient Follow Up is a key member of the Patient Access Services team, responsible for completing inpatient registrations, insurance verification, securing regulatory signatures and collecting inpatient point of service payments at the bedside. Professionally interacts with all hospital and clinical staff. Promotes a positive experience in all patient encounters.
Duties of a Patient Access Inpatient Representative may include the following, but are not limited to:
- Completes patient registration at inpatient bedside, including required demographic, regulatory information and signatures, and confirming insurance eligibility.
- Reviews registrations for completeness and correctness and supports registration areas when needed.
- Ensures that compliance regulations are met (including securing consents and regulatory signatures from patients or designee).
- Provides information on financial care counseling resources for self-pay patients.
- Assists in audits of regulatory documents / signatures.
- Must be able to maneuver a work station on wheels through patients' rooms within the designated registration areas, such as the emergency department and/or inpatient units.
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate's Degree with one year working experience in healthcare, hospitality or related industry.
Or, in lieu of degree, two years of demonstrated excellence working in a patient facing role in health care, such as medical office. - Excellence in verbal and written communication, computing and multi-tasking skills.
- Candidate must demonstrate experience and expertise in speaking with customers and can work well with persons who are under stress (such as sick patients and distressed family members).
- Strong PC experience and Microsoft Office; Excel, PowerPoint, and Word skills required.
- Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
The selected candidate will be required to work some holidays. Pass days are variable and weekend availability is required.
Preferred:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Billing Experience, Accounts Receivable, Hospital Patient Access and/or Registration experience.
- Skill experience in insurance reimbursement.
- Familiarity with Medical insurance benefits, demonstrated through experience with EMR computerized registration / Financial / IT systems.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Previous experience as a Patient Access Representative at a Medical Center is preferred.
