Patient Care Technician

Under direct supervision from a Registered Nurse or other designated supervision, provides direct patient care and assists in the maintenance of a safe environment that supports patient care needs.

Unit: 8A3 Acute Care Oncology

8A3 cares for primarily Hematology/Oncology patients as well as Acute Care Surgery patients. We provide comprehensive care for patients with benign and malignant disorders of the hematopoietic system such as Leukemia, Blood Disorders, Multiple Myeloma and Myeloproliferative Disorders. This patient population provides a wide variety of medical/surgical experiences while focusing on the specialty of Oncology.

Responsibilities:

• Observation/Monitoring: Obtains vital signs, responds to monitor alarms, measures intake and output, etc.
• Specimen Collection: Performs point of care testing, collects blood specimens, etc.
• Intravenous Lines: Discontinues peripheral IVs, primes peripheral lines, etc.
• Patient ADLs: Assists with personal hygiene, toileting, ambulation, feeding, etc.
• Tube Feedings: Performs tube feedings under RN direction.
• Urinary Catheters: Performs catheterizations, connects and drains catheters, etc.
• Enemas/Suppositories: Administers cleansing enemas, applies devices.
• Wound Care: Cleanses and redresses wounds, cares for drainage sites, etc.
• Respiratory Care: Assists with tracheostomy care, suctioning, etc.
• Other Interventions: Applies devices, performs post-mortem care, transports materials, etc.
• Environment: Stocks supplies, maintains patient rooms, etc.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to perform physical activities like moving patients.
• Preferred: Completion of Certified Nurse Aide program, basic computer skills, etc.

32 Hours Per Week, Days & evening shifts (8-hour shifts).
