We are seeking a Patient Service Coordinator/Medical Assistant.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Patient Service Coordinator (PSC)

  • Offer friendly, courteous, and confidential assistance to patients and providers to ensure that the patient has a positive experience while at Johns Hopkins Rockland Clinic at Greenspring Station. Work in a team environment with others within the clinic.
  • Maintain accurate information on each patient to facilitate the patient’s encounter. Use automated systems to expedite patient scheduling, pre-registration, check-in, and check-out.
  • Schedule patients for laboratory tests, exams, and consultations. Relay information to patients regarding preparation for testing and consultations. Coordinate visits within the department.
  • Answer phones to answer routine information to callers. Monitor voicemail messages.
  • Confirm appointments by telephone, Epic, or mailing appointment letters.
  • Verify and pre-register patients for appointments using Epic by obtaining patient’s demographic and insurance information.
  • Obtain pre-certifications as required by patient’s health insurance.
  • Inform patients of costs of care being provided and guide them to appropriate resources for further information, guidance, or assistance.
  • Maintain electronic patient charts, send/monitor patient messages and result letters. Provide accurate and timely messages to providers and other staff members.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing fax documents.
  • Fulfill HIPAA compliant ingoing and outgoing medical records requests.
  • Complete Infection Control screens during check-in process.
  • Provide accurate and efficient appointment check-in and check-out during clinic hours.
  • Assist in arranging patient transportation if needed. If a patient has to be admitted to the hospital, print patient demographics for transport.

Certified Medical Assistant (MA)

  • The MA participates in the care of the patient, under the direct supervision of the physician and in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Displays responsible behaviors, communicates effectively to others and functions as member of the healthcare team.
  • Reports to the clinic manager, who is responsible for administrative supervisions, staff development, and orientation of the MA to Johns Hopkins policies and procedures.
  • Maintains inventory of clinical supplies and equipment in clinical and storage areas. Monitors expiration dates on all supplies and equipment.
  • Follows HEIC and EOC protocols to maintain compliance within the clinic environment to ensure patient safety.
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills as they relate to patient care activities, provides guidance for and acts as a role model for medical assistants in the clinical area.
  • The MA demonstrates competency in all skills related to the performance of patient care.
  • Obtains and records patient’s vital signs into Epic. Monitors patient status, recognizing and reporting abnormal findings or changes in conditions to the physician.
  • Reviews medication list with the patient and documents appropriately in Epic and completes prescription refill requests.
  • Maintains and uses principles of aseptic techniques and infection control when performing clinical duties and tasks.
  • Under clinic supervision, procedures common to the specialty area in a safe, effective and efficient manner according to the Clinical Practice Policy and Procedure.
  • Appropriately obtains and manages specimens including labeling, form completion, transport to laboratories, and log maintenance. Performs quality control for waived testing.
  • Performs injection of vaccinations as directed.
  • Recognizes emergency events and implements emergency procedures according to clinical guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED and certification/registration as a Medical Assistant (e.g. CMA, AAMA, RMA, AMT, NAHP) required.
  • One year of work experience in customer service.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: $16.20 - $28.80 HRLY ($50,000 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
