PATIENT TRANSPORTER
Transport Equipment:
- Receive orders for equipment, stretchers, and wheelchairs from the floors, clinics, parking structures, and entrances by phone or verbally.
- Retrieve equipment, stretchers, and wheelchairs from the floors, clinics, parking structures, and entrances inside and outside.
- Deliver stretchers and /or wheelchairs to patient floors, clinics, or entrances by hand or Amigo scooter.
- Check all equipment for cleanliness, safety, and proper operation. Replace mattress on stretchers as needed or directed.
- Return all equipment, stretchers and wheelchairs from patient floors, clinic, entrances and specified pick-up areas to central location.
- Return all broken equipment, stretchers and wheelchairs from patient floors, clinics, entrances and specified pick-up areas to clinical engineering.
Patient Transport:
- Transportation staff will:
- Arrive at the unit with the transport vehicle (i.e. stretcher or wheelchair) specified at the time of request.
- Stop at the Nursing station to retrieve chart and/or card.
- Report to patient room, greet the patient by name, identify the patient by armband, introduce themselves to the parents, patient and nursing staff as appropriate.
- Assist the patient and/or nursing with the physical transfer of the patient onto the vehicle and transport patient to the appointment.
- Bodies of deceased patients will be transported to the Morgue by transport personnel.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma, GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be able to perform a wide range of physical activities including: pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, etc.
- Must be able to read and write English.
This position is primarily responsible for transport equipment.
Standard hours: 40
Workdays: Tuesday-Saturday
Shift start/end times: 12:00p-8:30p
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
