Overview
The goal of this People with Dementia in Acute-Care Hospitals program at Heidelberg University is to examine innovative approaches to patient care delivery for people with dementia. New findings obtained in interdisciplinary studies shall be used subsequently to enhance quality of life for people with dementia during and after their hospital stay.
Goals and Objectives
- Provide support and qualification programs for scientifically trained personnel in order to enhance medical and nursing care practice and to improve teaching quality in the respective disciplines
- Incorporate existing knowledge into interdisciplinary research, thus improving awareness for dementia; develop strategies for improving health care delivery and treatments meeting the individual needs of people with dementia; implement new approaches in preventive and rehabilitative care
- High Quality Research
- Practical relevance of patient-centered dissertation topics
- Multidisciplinarity and collaboration projects with various faculties and departments

- Lifestyle-integrated Functional Exercise in Different Target Groups
- New Technologies and Dementia/Day Centers for People with Cognitive Disorders
- Epidemiology, Reliability of Screening Tests and Issues in Study Designs/Analysis
- Architecture of Dementia-sensitive Hospitals
- Advance Care Planning (ACP) and Detection of Delirium
- Care of People with Dementia in Acute-care Hospitals

- Applicants must hold master's degree or equivalent with an above-average grade average. The transcript has to indicate at least four years of study at the university level.

Additional Details
There is no tuition fee but every doctoral candidate must pay a student service fee (161 EUR per semester).
Living costs
Heidelberg, Germany: 1,485-2,250 AUD / month
The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries.
