Exciting Opportunity at MSK: Join MSK as an Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring (IONM) Specialist, where you will play a vital role in supporting surgical teams and safeguarding the functional integrity of neural structures during complex operative procedures.
This position combines advanced neurophysiologic monitoring, patient support, precise documentation, and hands-on OR equipment management to ensure the highest standards of intraoperative safety and care.
Role Overview:
- Perform comprehensive intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring techniques--including somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs), motor evoked potentials (MEPs), brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEPs), limb and cranial nerve EMGs, and intraoperative electrocorticography--under the supervision of a staff neurologist.
- Evaluate requisitions, discuss monitoring protocols with neurologists, anesthesiologists, and surgeons, and tailor procedures to ensure patient comfort and effective monitoring.
- Ensure patient safety by following infection control guidelines, maintaining electrical safety, and adapting monitoring techniques for patients with sensory impairment.
- Perform inpatient and outpatient EMGs as needed and conduct routine EEGs on days without OR cases.
- Set up, maintain, troubleshoot, and coordinate routine and emergent repairs of OR neurophysiology equipment in collaboration with Clinical Engineering and vendors.
- Communicate intraoperative response changes promptly to neurosurgeons and collaborate closely with anesthesia and surgical teams to support safe and efficient OR workflows.
Key Qualifications:
- Experience performing SEPs, MEPs, BAEPs, limb and cranial nerve EMG, and intraoperative electrocorticography in the OR environment.
- Strong understanding of aseptic technique, infection control, and electrical safety in patient care settings.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate monitoring quality, resolve signal artifacts, and adjust procedures based on patient needs or surgical conditions.
- Technical proficiency in OR neurophysiology equipment setup, troubleshooting, and coordinating maintenance/repairs with vendors and Clinical Engineering.
Preferred Credentials
:- CNIM certification (ABRET) strongly preferred.
- R. EEG T. or R. EP T. (ABRET) is a plus.
- Eligibility for ABRET certification will also be considered.

- Schedule: Monday - Friday, hours vary, Per-Diem, onsite
- Location: 1275 York Avenue, NYC (Main Hospital)
- Reporting to: Department Supervisor
Pay Range: $47.72 - $55.00/HR depending on experience
