Your Role on the Team

Position Summary:

The pharmacy buyer is responsible for the purchasing of pharmaceuticals and supplies for the pharmacy department, tracking, trending and analyzing pharmacy inventory, to ensure that there is adequate inventory to meet the daily operational needs. They are also responsible to ensure compliance with all state and federal regulatory requirements (i.e., DSCSA), optimize inventory turns, minimize pharmaceutical stock-outs and expired products, maintains accurate records of pharmaceutical and supply purchases, provides reports in a timely manner, reconciles invoices, and coordinates the drug recall process. The pharmacy buyer works with the clinical team and pharmacy leadership to ensure formulary and contract compliance, determining alternative sourcing of pharmaceuticals and supplies during drug and supply shortages, as well as assists in controlling pharmaceutical and supply costs to meet financial budget targets. This position reports directly to the Director of Pharmacy and serves as the central point of contact for purchasing of pharmaceuticals and supplies for the pharmacy and ambulatory clinics.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required Qualifications:

• Valid California Board of Pharmacy Technician License and in good standing.
• Minimum 2-years of experience as pharmacy technician in an inpatient hospital pharmacy setting.
• Proficient in the use of MS Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong knowledge of 340B drug pricing program and related regulatory standards
• Minimum 3 years of experience in hospital pharmacy setting
• Knowledge of Drug Supply Chain Security Act regulations.
• Experience working with pharmacy automation (i.e., ADC, med carousel, etc.)
• Experience working with manufacturers/vendors to negotiate pricing contracts
• 1-year prior experience as a pharmacy buyer or similar role.
