Pharmacy Senior Technician I/UKHC
Physical Requirements
This position requires standing for greater than 5 hours at a time and possibly walking several miles per day. This position also requires the ability to reach items above shoulder level, performing tasks with repetitive motions, occasionally standing or walking with objects weighing up to 25 pounds, and lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects weighing up to or over 50 pounds. Additionally, this position may involve some job-related travel (less than 10% of time); exposure to risk of injury from moving, lifting, or positioning equipment or materials; and exposure to temperature extremes, hazardous chemicals and fumes including waste, cuts/punctures, and blood-borne or airborne pathogens.
Shift
Primary shift hours vary; 7:00am – 5:00pm. Monday through Friday. Staff work a rotating schedule during operating hours with base hours of 37.5 hours per week which is a full-time benefited position. Based on business needs and growth of the department, hours and days of the week required are subject to change. Shifts worked could require holidays and weekend rotations as needed with expansion of services.
Job Summary
This position will provide a variety of specialty pharmacy services including obtaining prior authorizations, enrolling patients’ in financial support programs, and coordinating first time dispenses and refills for specialty medications prescribed within UK HealthCare. You will work closely with nurses, physicians, and UK Specialty Pharmacy staff to improve access to medications for a variety of sub specialty disease states. Effective 4/1/09, the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy requires all pharmacy technicians to be registered with the state and pay a $25 fee within 30 days of hire. This registration must be renewed annually. Primary focus is to follow URAC standards not limited to but including PHARMCore, Patient Management, and Operations. Follow scope of standards and policies of Specialty Pharmacy Services in relation to at minimum dispensing, procurement, mail order shipping, cold chain distribution, storage, and supply management. Person is responsible for following appropriate shipping requirements, providing quality measures testing of cold chain packaging, monitoring complaints regarding shipping errors, turnaround times, and tracking of products after leaving facility, if available. This position will support inventory processes by unpacking deliveries, putting away medications, performing counts and expiration checks. They are responsible for maintaining proper storage requirements of medications, accountability, and security of inventory per URAC standards.This position is eligible for a recruitment bonus. Preferred Education/Experience
Hospital/retail pharmacy technician and/or healthcare customer service experience preferred.
